Manus Bond: 78-FA Adhesive Sealant

Manus-Bond 78-FA Sealant

Manus-Bond 78-FA Xtreme is a moisture-reactive, polymer-based wood floor and panel adhesive that is a one-part, flexible, and tough elastomeric adhesive. It is engineered to provide tenacious bond, durable and moisture-stable adhesive, and protective barrier for wide range of solid wood plank and strip, wood parquet, engineered wood plank, and most type of paneling in residential and commercial flooring and paneling installations applications. 78-FA flows smoothly and easily onto porous and non-porous substrates. 78FA “low viscosity controlled flow” technology offers a fast and efficient application using trowel to create a uniform thickness adhesive. This product is moisture resistant; low-VOC and it does not contain isocyanates.

Typical Usage

Manus-Bond 78-FA is engineered with low-viscosity, controlled-flow to be used as adhesive for all manufacturers’ wood plank and strip (up to 1/2’), wood parquet, and engineered wood plank and strip. It may be used on all grade levels: concrete, cementitious underlayment, APA-grade underlayment plywood (untreated), radiant-heated subfloors where temperatures do not exceed 85 F (30C), cementitious terrazzo, and existing resilient flooring, metal and common flooring materials. It is also recommended for installing FRP (fiber-reinforced plastic) laminate, and other wall coverings over many common porous and non-porous surfaces.

Applied Surfaces and Limitations

Manus-Bond 78-FA can be applied to large range of flooring substrates including: wood, concrete, metal, cementitious and common flooring materials. The adhesive will not prevent moisture-related damage to wood flooring installations. Do not allow light-foot traffic until fully cured: usually 12 to 24 hrs. Follow industry standards and wood floor manufacturer’s recommendations for subfloor moisture content, design, layout and application of wood flooring materials.

Surface Preparation

All surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from damage, loose contaminants, dirt, dust, oil, grease, mist, frost, and mildew. Sweeping the surface to remove contaminants before applying the adhesive is recommended. Floor must be leveled; maximum acceptable floor variation is 1/8” in 10 feet. Use Portland cement based material if surface area is requiring patching or leveling.

Application Equipment and Coverage

Manus-Bond 78-FA can be applied by troweling the adhesive with suitable V-notch trowel. Immediately place flooring onto “wet” adhesive. Do not spread more adhesive than can be covered within 15 - 25 minutes, depending upon temperature and humidity. The adhesive estimated to cover 35 to 80 square feet per gallon depending on the notched trowel size that is used. This coverage rate is approximate and used only as guideline. Exact coverage may be different depending on the surface roughness, adhesive thickness, and other factors.

User Evaluation

Testing for compatibility and adhesion on small area of the surface must be performed by the user. The user shall determine suitability of the product for its intended use. Testing must also be performed to determine the actual coverage rates necessary to achieve desired thickness.

Clean Up

Remove wet adhesive residue with a clean, white cloth dampened with soapy water. Use mineral spirits for dried adhesive residue, carefully following warnings on the container. When using mineral spirits, test a small area before proceeding to make sure it does not damage the surface being cleaned.

Product Handling and Storage

Manus-Bond 78-FA cures by reacting with air moisture; the skin and cure time is dependent on the humidity and temperature of the surrounding. The product must be stored in tightly sealed containers in dry area out of direct sunlight and high heat. Open containers only when ready for use. Once the container is open and exposed to the atmosphere, a skin will start to form at the surface over time. If this occurs, remove the skin from the surface before using the material.

Packaging and Colors

Manus-Bond 78-FA is available in 1-gallon, 3.5-gallon, 5-gallon pails, and 20 fl. oz. sausages. The standard color is light beige. Manus-Bond 78-FA is available in other colors upon request.

Precaution

Use with adequate ventilation. Inhalation of vapor during application and cure may cause eye or throat irritation. In case of contact with eyes, lips, or mouth, flush thoroughly with water. If irritation persists, consult a physician. Avoid repeated, prolonged contact with skin. See SDS for additional information. KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.
